Tweet Those Facts?

(Guest post by E-G)
Twitter was created in 2006 by Jack Dorsey and was launched in July of that year. Twitter hasn't always been so popular because Facebook was thought to be better. Twitter now has over 225 million users world wide and there are around 65 million tweets a day. Twitter is searched on the internet about 800,000 times a day, that's a lot don't you think?
The name 'Twitter' was chosen because it's actually the name for 'chirps from birds' they are shorts bursts of noise and twitter is all about short bursts of information, this is helped along by there being a 140 character limit for any tweet.

It took 3 years, 2 months and 1 day for Twitter to get 1 billion tweets and now there's over that in 1 week. On the 25th of June 2009 Michael Jackson died, there where around 456 tweets per second, although the record was set at 4 seconds past midnight in Japan on new years day, when there where 6939 tweets at that precise second .

In 2008 Twitter had only 8 employees but in 2011 there was a massive jump to over 400. Twitter has inspired loads of people to make there own social media sites because of how popular they can turn out. A lot of people think that Facebook and Twitter are at war with each other but I don't think they are because they are so very different. Yes, they do have some very similar aspects but I still use them both. I use Facebook to talk to and catch up with friends but I use Twitter mainly for advertising my blog. If you don't have Twitter why not give it a go, it really is amazing.
